What You’ll Learn

The course is divided into two main parts: Theory and Measurements, with a strong focus on practical, hands-on learning.

Part A – Theory

Learn essential RF concepts in a clear, easy-to-understand way, reinforced with classroom exercises.

Topics include:

• Radio waves and basic propagation

• Antenna basics

  • Frequency vs. wavelength

  • Antenna types

  • Radiation patterns

• RF cables: types, losses, and power handling

• RF connectors: types and applications

Key RF measurements:

• dB, dBm, dBW

• Return loss and SWR

• Insertion loss and gain

• Smith chart and S-parameters

• Distance-to-fault and TDR

Part B – Measurements

Apply theoretical knowledge in the field with guided, hands-on use of real RF test equipment. Participants will learn to accurately measure and interpret:

• Return loss and SWR

• Insertion loss and gain

• Smith charts and S-parameters

• Distance-to-fault and TDR

Equipment used includes:

• Anritsu LMR Master S412E

• RigExpert antenna and cable analysers from Electrotest

Practical sessions build confidence in troubleshooting and diagnosing faults effectively in the field.
