PAT Testing Training Course (1-Day)

This 1-day in-person, hands-on course is designed for anyone responsible for electrical safety in workplaces, schools, labs, or facilities who needs practical skills in testing and tagging portable electrical appliances in accordance with AS/NZS 3760.

Course Fee: $365.00 + GST (includes all course material and meals)


Participants will gain the confidence to:

  • Understand AS/NZS 3760 and legal responsibilities

  • Identify Class I and Class II appliances

  • Perform compliant visual inspections

  • Carry out electrical tests using a Seaward PAT Tester

  • Interpret test results and identify faulty equipment

  • Apply tags and keep accurate records


What You’ll Learn

The course is divided into Theory and Practical, with strong emphasis on real-world application.


Theory

A clear introduction to PAT testing and electrical safety requirements.

Topics include:

  • What PAT testing is and why it is required

  • Overview of AS/NZS 3760

  • Testing intervals and documentation

  • Appliance classes (Class I vs Class II)

  • Basic electrical concepts relevant to PAT

    • Voltage, current, resistance

    • Insulation and earth continuity

    • AC vs DC

    • Overview of the MEN system

This theory foundation ensures learners understand why tests are performed and the safety principles behind them.


Practical

Hands-on training using the Seaward PAT Tester and real appliances.

Practical activities include:

  • Conducting visual inspections

  • Testing Class I appliances

  • Testing Class II appliances

  • Earth continuity testing

  • Insulation resistance testing

  • Polarity and leakage tests

  • Interpreting pass/fail readings

  • Applying test tags correctly

  • Recording test results for compliance

Participants will complete both:

  • A short written assessment

  • A practical demonstration of PAT testing

Certificate of Completion

Awarded upon successful completion of both components.
